ZEISS SteREO Discovery.V8

A stereo microscope useful for many basic research applications including those requiring large working distances such as mineral picking. The Discovery.V8 has the following features:

• A 10x eyepiece with 8:1 zoom (1.0x ... 8.0x) and 4 objectives (0.3x, 0.63x, 1.0x, 1.5x) for a total microscope magnification of 3x-120x
• Transmitted light with movable diaphragm for (1) bright field, (2) oblique-light contrast and (3) dark field imaging
• Rotatable polarization filters
• An Axiocam 305 color microscopy camera for high quality digital images and videos*

*There is an image processing workstation available in the lab for basic image processing and analysis if needed

Zeiss Axioscope 5 Polarization

A polarized light microscope for common applications of geology, mineralogy and metallography. Working distances at largely limited especially while using high magnification objectives. The Axioscope 5 has the following features:

• A 10x eyepiece with six objectives (2.5x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, and 50x)
• Transmitted and Reflective Light with an installed Bertrand module that can be utilized with the 40x and 50x objectives.
• A 90° rotatable polarizer and a 360° rotatable rotary stage with 45° clickstops
• An Axiocam 305 color microscopy camera for high quality digital images and videos

*There is an image processing workstation available in the lab for basic image processing and analysis if needed

MTI KSL-1500 High Temperature Muffle Furnace

High temperature furnace controlled by a high precision digital controller that can be programmed with 51 temperature ramp segments with an accuracy of +/-1 °C up to 1400 °C.

Barnstead/Thermolyne Type F21100 Tube Furnace

Heating device that is useful for heating materials in a uniform matter for a variety of applications up to 1100°C. The furnace has a 12-inch heating zone length that can accommodate 1- or 2-inch diameter process tubes.

VWR 1310 Gravity Convection Oven

Drying oven for powders and light samples without active air movement. The oven has a volume of 1 cubic foot and a temperature range of Amb+5°C to 200°C with a uniformity of 4°C.

Image Processing Workstation

Computer workstation with included software that can meet most visualization and general data processing needs.
